Summary
This article is about how to set up tasks in the young learner classroom with suggestions of how to implement them. Claire Steele categorised this teaching technique into six sub-sets and offered suggestions on how best to manage them.
First of all, Introducing materials. As it is young learners, try to use the classroom and the children’s sense of fun and play.
Secondly, Supporting verbal instructions. Children need extra support because sometimes it’s not only about knowing what to do, but how to do it. Try to demonstrate as much as you can and model tasks for them.
Thirdly, Motivation. The teacher should show an example for students to be enthused and excited ourselves about the task or activity ahead so that the children in turn become motivated to do it.
Furthermore, Setting boundaries, The task and the aim and Allow time are also very useful sub-sets in setting up in the classroom.
